Unable to Access BIOS

Go to solution Solved by wintercat,

just look for the cmos reset pins on the board

should have them

if you do it the battery way...probably have to take it out for 15-20 mins

I hate to sound like a bleeding idiot, but I honestly don't see anything labeled CMOS or that looks like the pictures I'm seeing on Google images.

HOWEVER, I just found this little beauty: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/328010-30-bios-screen-blank-screen

and it has post from an ASUS motherboard expert in it that says,"The issue for you guys not getting a display is a handshaking problem between your GPU and monitor. The only resolution supported by UEFI is 1280X1024. If for some reason your GPU and TV/monitor don't handshake at that resolution, you'll see the splash screen but either get a garbled display or no display in UEFI. You'll also find you're fine when in Windows (for obvious reasons)."

This totally sounds like it could be the problem, since I'm using kind of an older TV w/ 1920 x 1080 res as a display. I don't have anything to test this with atm, but I'll nab a friend's monitor in the morning and see if that's the case. If it works, I'll check in and declare the thread solved. Thanks so much for y'alls help!

I seem to have no BIOS. When I boot up my PC, I get the manufacturer screen with a big ASUS logo and of course the message "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS setting". It then proceeds to boot to Windows 10 as per normal. However, if I try to access UEFI BIOS, as in, if I do press DEL or F2, I get a black screen with a green chunky cursor I can move around with the mouse. No menu, no UEFI, just a green cursor that draws as I move it but doesn't erase so that eventually the whole screen is full of big green cursors. No keys on the keyboard have any effect, nor does clicking or anything like that, I just have to turn the PC off.

I assume I need to update the BIOS or something, but the instructions on ASUS's website say I need to boot the new BIOS from a USB drive. I need BIOS to boot from the USB drive in the first place. Any suggestions?

Don't know the motherboard.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

your keyboard is legacy....bios probably only accepts newer usb

you need to reset the bios

and that should set it

either that or your keyboard is messed up

Don't know the motherboard.

ASUS M32BF. Motherboard is model-specific, I suppose, but the model name is A58BM-A/M32BF.

Do you still have time to RMA it, or is the RMA period over?

It's over. My friend bought it in January, modded the power supply and added a GPU(R9 270x), and sold it to me just now. I don't believe he had any issues with the BIOS.

Uhh... try finding an option to boot into UEFI via advanced options?

I'm not sure what advanced options you're referring to.

I've used a couple different keyboards. Razer Deathstalker and a wireless Microsoft keyboard, to be exact.

This is a prebuilt OEM machine right?

Edit: just grab the "Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS." and do it that way.  Not too difficult.

As in remove the battery? Is there any probability that will screw anything else up?

no

you don't have to remove the battery

could just use a jumper to short the bios pins

99.9% of motherboards have bios reset pins

It is the above problem, so far as I can tell. And there is no real solution for it besides using a different display. Or, in my case, waiting on the GPU I ordered to come, which will probably, but not definitely, work better. Thanks much for your help!
