How does one focus on there self

Go to solution Solved by EliasNM,

I have the Nikon d5100 and it has ok focus with a touch of a button but when it dose fully-auto that is where it is a pile of crap. it makes loud noses when focusing and it can never focus on me. I need help how can i focus on my self because i can not go focus it when i am in front of the camera so what do i do? (and plz do not tell me to have someone focus for me).

Normally with auto focus you want to put something in front of it and slowly remove it to focus on you otherwise it will focus all over the place never focusing because it can't decide what is the middle point for focus. Also learn how AF points work.

The noise is from the focus motor. As to how to focus on yourself if you are taking a photo of yourself go read the camera manual on selecting focus points or choosing focus priority, focus area.

Using a DSLR is not the same as using a point and shoot camera. To properly use a DSLR, you need to read the manual and customize the settings depending on your photography needs. Otherwise sell your Nikon and get a supermarket disposable camera.
