So I have the most non-tech savy parents in the world. and they refused to let me build my own computer because "it won't be covered when something goes wrong" so I figured the least I could do is get something in the Atx formfactor with expandability from asus. I ended up with a quad core i5 paired with 16 gigs of ram and a gt 640. The 640 is not a bad little card for light use but I really couldn't crank up the detail levels on any games. Another issue I faced was that the system didn't have firewire 400 for me to hook my prosumer camcorder into to import the footage.

So I decided to order some parts when they said I could have fry's upgrade it... at this point I couldn't be asked to give  **** I mean as long as I got a rig the way I want it then that's fine with me, besides "we paid for the extra 6 year warranty" so I assume that means they will be willing to throw in a new psu and some pci cards right? No Wrong!!! we brought the pc down to fry's and they said it will be $150 and they would need to keep my pc for 2 weeks to do this "big job" I called bull on that and said "i'm just not ready to upgrade right now" and we went home

3 days later when my parents were off on vacation and I was home alone I upgraded the psu the graphics card and the cooling system in my pc without a hitch. Even tidy'ed up the cable management and ordered a pizza to celebrate.

Now my main concern is

A: they are gonna wonder what happened to my $300+ worth of parts

B: My bro will squeel unless cohersed otherwise... (you get what i'm saying)

C: Parents gonna be so pissed at me that my dad breaks his back trying to throw the tower out the window...

48 hours till they return and I need some advice...

I don't think there is any way they'll notice unless they have great insight into your back account.

Just say that you are capable of doing things by yourself and if anything goes wrong you still have warranty from the manufacturer of the part that broke.

Tell them that they have to trust you and it'll be under your own responsibility when anything goes wrong. Good luck.

Honestly man I have no idea how to help you with the extreme your parents are. "It won't be covered when something goes wrong" make sure they realise that most parts have good warranties and specifically buy the parts accordingly I would recommend asus or corsair for most things.

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Intel 3770k stock, MSI Z77A-GD65, MSI GTX 760, Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600Mhz 16Gb, Corsair RM 550W, Samsung 830 256Gb, some random hdds.

Buying the warranty is enough to make me warm with anger

...but tell me this is a typo

nope, they assumed that I would be fine with everything that is in this system the way it is for the next 6 years unless we pay a flat rate and wait 2 weeks even if they have to install something stuipid like a pci card

They paid $1200 for this stupid *** warranty

I am 15 next month btw and make a decent living building pc's and repairing them for people

Tell them to trust you, and if they can't then tell them it's their problem.

Tell them it DOES have warranty and that they shouldn't make a big deal about it and that you know better about tech than they do.

Also, is that 300 dollars your money? Did you earn it? If so it's not their business. anyway.

Either remove the LED's or put back the old fans, that will help and I am sure you can bribe the younger brother somehow.

The original $900 was my money, they insisted so that I don't "mess with it" on the last second of buying it at fry's to pay for the 6 year warrenty so that somehow makes it "they're computer too" because they "paid for most of it"

the 300 was also my money...

Things you bought with your money is your business, not theirs, they have no right.

I would try to just play it like normal. As for you little brother tell him that if he says anything he will regret it, maybe not today or tomorrow but one day he will. And it is up to you to follow through with the threat or not. And if you parents say anything, and I doubt they will since they are not tech savy at all, just tell them and tell them that you are able to do these things. That it is normal and there is an entire industry based off of it. From the little information you gave I am assuming you parents are just a bit overprotective, so were mine and it changed when I showed them I am able to do things on my own. But you have to stick to your guns, if you back off they win. Good luck man.

Also if you get a job and make you own money then they really can't tell you what to do with it as long as it isn't illegal. So that may be a better alternative.
