I'm building a PC for my dad who does some light gaming. Everything works but for some reason I'm only getting 4gb ram total when I have 2x4gb sticks installed. (tested each stick separately, only getting 2 each.) The sticks themselves say they are 4gb sticks. I went into advanced boot options in msconfig and made sure maximum memory was unchecked.

And I tried to see if there was a memory remap option in the bios but couldn't find it. (The motherboard is a Gigabyte G1. Sniper H6. I have a Sniper z97 in my personal build and it works perfectly.) I also updated to the latest bios. So is there anything you guys know that might fix the problem or is it possible that G. Skill sent me 2x2gb sticks that are labeled as 2x4gb?

Thanks.

Have you tested it in other systems? It wasn't quite clear

I'm actually at his house right now. He had the parts shipped to him and I came over to build it for him. There's no other computer here other than a laptop. So should I take the sticks home and try it in my build? lol

Have you tested not only both dimms, but also both slots?

try running then with one ram in one slot each. not 2 at one time but one and if one dosent even boot up it means u shud RMA it

Yep. I've tested all the slots and with one at a time. Same thing. Only shows as 2gb each no matter what.

I said I did. I have them in the slots the manual says to. And I've tried every combination other than what the manual says. Same thing.

Easiest would be RMA it. Especially if you bought it within 7/14 days (you can get full refunds, at least in the netherlands)

Yeah. I can have them returned. I just wanted to check here in case somebody knew some miracle fix for this if it was a problem on my part.  Very strange they somehow mixed up a 2x4 kit with a 2x2.

test the memory in your build and check what cpu-z says, if it detects 2gb sticks then rma them and ask for the proper sticks

Did you check at POST or in the BIOS, how much ram was detected? Just so we can rule out the OS ?
If even the BIOS says you have 4GB total / 2GB sticks, then you got screwed over and you should RMA it. You could try clearing the cmos and retry again but I doubt it would change anything.

Also, some RAM kits say "4GB" or "8GB" on both ram sticks, but that's really the total value of the kit itself, not of the individual ram sticks.

Can you give us the part number that's written on the sticker that's on the RAM ?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Bazzite

It says on the sticks and the package it came in 8gb (2x4gb) I can post a picture if you want. I'ma test them in my build tomorrow and if it's the same I'ma drop them off at the post office and buy another set.
