Fan speed vs. Temperature

Would you rather have your computer quiet and your components 80+ degrees or would you rather have more noise and your components no more that 60 degrees?

 

I would rather have a quiet PC. My fans run so slow my motherboard doesn't even detect rpm on them.

Personally I would set a profile so that, the PC is quiet when I'm not doing anything, but have the fans ramp up when the PC is under load.

I learned very quickly after building my comp that fan noise drives me crazy.  Prolimatech fans with led's are a no no lol.

If you have to run them that slow to not hear them, you most likely need some better fans. If you invest in decent fans you should have respectable CFM with minimal noise. I myself run stuff at lower RPM and don't mind some additional heat. Sometimes my top GPU can fluctuate between 48-60c idle.

My proc usually tops out at around 42-45c in summer, so it practically never ramps up.

When I'm working home alone theres no reason to show off

 

 

but oh when people come over, thats when I break out the nuclear launch simulators and turn the curve up to the max speed the fans will handle at idle. Even make the led's flash red on and off just to freak out my sister's new boyfriend LOL

Not really. Only problem I have is with either ET or the board is the polling for temps which causes audio latency issues over G35's. If I don't turn ET off every 3 seconds or so (whatever polling rate is) I hear the most rage inducing squeal.

My fans are connected to the power supply so they're always on full RPM all the time. I really need new fans...

got a oc of 1150 core clock and 1500 memory on my 7950, temps are 65C and fan speeds are 35-40%
 

cpu doesn't go above 70 too, and im using a H60 with one F12, which im adding another for cooler operation

As long as the temperature is at or below 70 for part longevity, i have an ambient noise of ~40-50db so i can actually ramp up my fans to 90% and not hear anything lol :P

Definitely more concerned about the temperatures of my components than I am about the sound. I game with headphones anyway and generally the ambient noise around my house is louder than my pc anyway.

80c degrees man. 80+ c will not kill your parts but having a high fan speed will defs do me head in BIG TIME. My cpu is silent no matter what i throw at it (no OC with a 212 evo) but the gpu is annoying. However, my cousin had this 6950 from saphire and the fan sound was loud but not annoying. If i had that cooler, i wouldn't mind. If i take off my oc, my  . But my card has an annoying fan that irritates the sh*t out of me . It is hard to explain. It won't keep the same noise.  i put the fan at 100% to make it easiier to hear on video. It only goes up to 56% fan speed when gaming and silent when i take off my OC

I have a laptop so if I lower down the RPM of the fan it will burn so I just leave it as it is, personally when I get a PC I will buy Noctua fans but on my laptop I don't mind the noise because it's always plugged in a USB Fan Cooling thing. I am in the middle if you ask me.

I try to balance both things, I don't mind having temps of up to 80C @100% load (GPU) (no more) if it means the system is reasonably quieter, of course owning an HD6870, "reasonably quiet" is a relative thing...

Under a 4.2GHZ OC my 3770k gets to like 65c under relatively low fan noise. Right now I'm waiting for my new power supply. My earthwatts is loud as hell under load.

I much prefer temps over fan speed, my speakers are at a decent level and normally my 660 is just humming in the background maxing out at 67'c with a +50 on the factory overclock (Overall 1231Mhz)
