Alright,I have a rig that I built about a month ago or 2. But originally I was planning on upgrading the gpu/storage but for some reason I felt like changing something. I would like your help/advice/judgement on what I'm planning so farl

So here is my rig atm

I5 4590

B85 ASROCK Killer

Msi gtx960 2g

Antec HCG 550w

Seagate 320gb had

NZXT S340

Originally I planned on upgrading my graphics to 980ti msi 6gb and buying ssd with 1tb hdd with it.

But I thought and ask some my brother. Should I really opt for a 980ti with my current rig or should I just go with a gtx 970 or r9 390x but buying a i5 4690k along with a z97 board with a aio adding a new psu and ssd to overclock it to have some more headroom just in case I have to do editing in the future. Or should I just buy the 980ti and live with it with my current rig. Both will cost roughly the same but just asking your opinion

Just get a 980Ti with more storage , I think 550W with no OC is enough for a 980Ti

It begs the question, why bother upgrading the CPU and Motherboard at all?

I would definitely swap out that HDD for either:

1. 1x Large SSD - 256GB, 512GB, 1TB - whatever size floats your boat, or

2. 1x Smaller SSD - 128GB or 256GB - paired with 1x 1TB (or larger) HDD

For your GPU, I'd suggest a GTX 970 or an R9 390x - unless you still want to go "Balls to the wall", in that case, still opt for a 980 Ti or even a Fury (non x) - there's really not much point in getting a GTX 980 anymore.

For less than a 980, you get the 390x which matches or beats it in many games, or for not much more, you get a Fury, which stomps it in basically every game - and then for a fair bit more, you can get a 980 Ti, which is pretty much the best at the high end right now (Fury X is close, and in some places a bit cheaper, but they're pretty close, and the 980 Ti still edges it out most of the time).

If you opt for anything higher than a 970, you probably will want to swap out your PSU for a 650 Watt or a 750 Watt one.

For a 980 Ti, even without OC, I'd still err on the side of caution, and upgrade the PSU to a 650 Watt. You probably won't need it, but it gives nice headroom for the unknown.

What res are you running at?

At 1080p, I'd still recommend a gtx 970 or if you really want to maybe a gtx 980 or if you are fine with amd and don't play a lot of titles like World of Warcraft or League of Legends, the r9 390x is about as fast as the 980 but at a lower price. Or the r9 390 even, it's about $100 cheaper than the 390x and not really much slower.

At 1440p and up I'd recommend at least a gtx 980/r9 390x.

Also get a small SSD and a 1TB HDD.

You can get a 120GB or 1TB HDD for less than $80 these days, so it's definitely affordable.

CPU: i7-4770k (LM modded) - MB: GA-Z87X-UD3H - RAM: HyperX, 16GB 1866MHz - GPU: Palit GTX 980Ti Super - Storage: 1TB HDD + 500GB/120GB SSD (850 Evo/840) - Monitor: Predator XB271HU - PSU: 700W BeQuiet 80+ Gold

Thanks for the quick reply guys! As of now I'll just ditch the cpu/mobo upgrade and go for a better gpu. Also I plan on gaming on a 1440p monitor in the future. But if ever I did go for a gpu that is indeed higher than a gtx 970. Would it be wise to keep my current psu and opt for a new gpu and a ssd with hdd or should I just go for the psu upgrade and still buy the gpu but living with 1tb hdd or just a 120gb ssd
