How does DNS work?

FastBehindYou

Hello guys,

The following website is a funny comic about how DNS works. It is very good for people who don't know anything about DNS but it is funny for the experts too!

Visit https://howdns.works for the comic.

All information about DNS is welcome! There are a lot of users which don't know exactly how DNS works and what it is.

I always explain DNS to my customers.....................Its like a telephone directory.

IP = Telephone Number

Address = Domain Name

Resolves one to another in simple terms.

I'd probably explain it a bit differently. I'd stick closer to the IP terms in how the relate to the world.

IP=Address (we could say phone number if you just wanted to call the place I guess)

Domain Name = Name

Think of it like this. I say "I want to go to LMG", but I don't know where LMG is located, so I check DNS (telephone directory is a good example)  and see that LMG has the address x.x.x.x. Now I can find my way to LMG.
