MSI Afterburner v3.0.0's Sweet Features

samuel

Now you can lock a custom framerate for power saving features and no tearing! 30 FPS is enough for you? Lock it and save your GPU life with lower temps and lower power usage! Very useful for cards like 6990 where you get well beyond 60 FPS and your monitor only suports 60 HZ. Just disable vsync, lock the framerate to whatever value and forget about it!

"Extend official overclocking limits"! We all know that pretty much all the HD 7000 series are OC limited by the AMD in Catalyst! Now I can get 1600 MHZ memory clock and NOT 1250 (wich was the ""normal" limit.) The GPU clock can be OC'ed further as well! OK, there where some workloads but now just check the box and you are set.

ULPS can be disabled now. It never worked for me. When idle (monitor off), my card was starting to spin it's fans randomly@ 70-100%.. sooo annoyng!

Some other compatibility fixes: after suspended mode, afterburner restores it's clocks automatically, so you're not having surprises with some drivers who stick their noses in!

This software was already awesome, with these new features I'm just...happy!

dude this is not new i have been using this for last 3 or 4 months now and DONT USE UNOFFICIAL overclocking it makes your drivers extremely unstable even while not gaming

also from my experiences disabling vsync and setting maximum fps 60 does nothing in few games i still get terrible screen tearing i recommend keeping both enabled but setting fps cap at 59 fps

Is the locking of the fps dynamic? or is it like normal vsync?

Normal vsync is terrible.

my afterburner (not installed the beta) has a fps limiter in the options (the little spanner icon) but I have never tried to use it, always just enforced the nvidia dynamic vsync in the control panel.

Why does this one not have tearing? I have used the fps limiter on EVGA's tool and it tears like crazy, so I just use adaptive vsync.

If I understand it right this limits the framerate to 60 (or whatever you want), meaning it can be 56, 54 or anything under 60, but it won't go over that. Which is basically what adaptive vSync is doing. EVGA's PrecisionX should do the same however, I don't see why it would cause tearing.

You have to be sure to set it to a value which is a multiplier of your screens refresh rate, otherwise you will sure get tearing.

There's no point in that when you use adaptive vsync, though.

I tested it at 60 fps limit and it was unplayable.

What do you mean? Like screen tearing or lag? Did you try 59 FPS? Or higher?

I haven't installed it yet, will do soon, but was just curious.

I did this a few weeks ago with evga precision X, I used 60 fps and it was tearing a lot. I only ran it for a few seconds because it was so bad, I didn't test any other limits. I think adaptive vsync works fine instead though.

Hmm, well thanks! Get I'll have to test this personally...

If anything I can use RadeonPro for Adaptive V-Sync.
