Tips for rig upgrade

buddy1121

Hello World, (see what i did there?)

In advance i don't know if i'm posting this in the right section so if not just tell me I'll delete it.

So, my problem. I'm running fairly old rig :

motherboard: GA-MA74GMT-S2

RAM: 8GB

CPU: AMD Athlon II x4 640 with 4CPUs and ~3.0GHz per core

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR 5

and i would like to get something a little bit better so i could run witcher 3 on minimum at least.

problem is that as a student i don't really flourish with cash. I can either choose better GPU or CPU in a prize range about $100-$150 (or better 2000 CZK - 4000 CZK).

should i get new CPU or GPU? or new rig entirely?

I'll appreciate any kind of help or advice.

Thank you in advance

I would chuck the GPU first, then new CPU sooner or later.

If youre not looking to get into the used market, then you can probably get a 270X for $150

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

if you're asking new rig or new components, I always say just put together a new rig entirely.

CPU: I7 4790k  CPU Cooler: NH-D15 GPUMSI 970 4gb   Motherboard: z97 Gaming 5 PSU: Corsair hx850   Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 gb  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo  Case: Air 540

New rig, I'd throw the old one out or repurpose it

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

i was affraid that this will be the case. Is it possible to build a good gaming rig (with tower case) and not go over $400?

If you're willing to use Linux and not Windows, sure
