I would get the i5 since the i5 will do decently at rendering

if you dont plan on overclocking, it would be a much better route to go with a xeon 1231 v3. price of the i5, with good rendering capabilities as the i7.

best of both worlds

The i5 and the 970. It still packs a performance punch but you'll be able to use the 970 for some performance gaming. You'll be more happy waiting for a video to render than waiting for a frame to load

Heyyo,

This if you don't care about overclocking. That Xeon will do great.

i5 would be better deal in my opinion. Lots are saying go xeon but thats $70 more then the i5 you are looking at. And for your usage the i5 will do the job nicely. And that will get you more money for whats important, the GPU.

EDIT and going i5 you might be able to get 16gb ram along with a 970. A better GPU and 8gb more ram will be better then skimping on those just to get hyperthreading
