If you were part of my older thread, you know that I have chiggers (probably) still crawling around in my bed. Now these suckers live in the heat, so a good high heat cycle in the dryer won't kill them (at least not all of them). I read that soap and hot water cycles will kill the larvae, but I want to be sure that they're all gone because these bites itch like a motherfucker. How much bleach do I add to my top load High Efficiency washer to ensure that anything is there will be dead without completely washing out the color in my bedding? And am I not supposed to put bleach in hot water or something? Or does that matter at all in a washing machine? I can't use color safe bleach because it doesn't have chlorine and it's the chlorine that kills the buggers. Thanks!

You do realize this is a tech forum? This has to be the farthest off-topic thread I've ever seen.

Washing machines are tech

AFAIK detergent in the washing machine will kill them, I wouldnt start throwing bleach in there, and if you do only the tiniest amount

What is the source of them? perhaps you can put something down to stop them

Off-Topic is off topic. There was a guy asking if he had ass cancer so calm down.

Edit: You must be new since this the farthest off topic post you've seen.

pretty sure any bleach will wreck the colors. but may be wrong, lol wuts laundry.

atleast its productive unlike MANY offtopic threads

Well if I add a little it will wash out the color, just not enough that it looks like it was sitting in the sun for three weeks. I don't mind washing out the color a little, it's already starting to show it's age. Maybe an iron over everything (and thoroughly) will kill what's left? It sucks because those bugs are bright red and my sheets are as well. Doesn't help that you need a magnifying glass to see them clearly either.

I have never used bleach when washing things so I have no idea. Good luck, I would assume there is a standard amount that people add so maybe look for that

The source is me being a dumbass. I was walking around in my ranch which was overgrown and hot from the Texas summer, then taking a nap in those SAME GOD DAMN JEANS, which caused them to hang out there at night. So detergent with the *tiniest* amount of bleach? I can be 100% sure that it will kill them? I will also vacuum my bed, floor, and spray the shit out of it with Lysol.

I looked but there is no one that has used it with colored items like mine. Anyone who uses bleach in the washing machine does it to whiten up their sheets, but my sheets and most of my bedding are a deep red, almost maroon.

It will still probably ruin colours, but its either ruin colours or get eaten alive by bugs

I'll add barely any bleach, like I said I don't mind washing out the colors a bit. I might just add (since I use those Tide Pods thingys) two pods of detergent and a high heat wash. That should completely get rid of them. Thanks for the help, and to others as well!

Is bleach not corrosive?

Can't imagine that doing your washing machine or pipes any good...

Why not just get some new bedding?

Bleach in a washing machine is not a problem, all of the material is either aluminum or stainless steel. There is a dedicated port for bleach that says 'Liquid Bleach Only' so I'm sure it's fine. Like I said I will just use a shit ton of detergent, hot water, and a touch of bleach. Just a lil' bleach, barely anything.

mix the bleach with some water, so when it hit the clothes "Edit: i meant bed sheets" it doesnt wash the color from 1 spot.

There is a spot/port that you pour bleach in, I'm not sure if it immediately hits the sheets as soon as you pour it or it slowly disperses it as it's washing.

Not in the concentration you'd actually use for cleaning laundry, and especially not when dissolved in that much water.

I'm not sure even pure Bleach would actually corrode a steel washing machine very much. Might tarnish it over time or something.

Considering that most machines are made with stainless steel or aluminum components I'm sure that the extremely diluted bleach won't corrode the machine, the most you have to worry about is your clothes lol.

The bleach is going

This will help, but you will still likely have "bleach spots" where more of the color is washed out in blobs. Tie die bedsheets anyone?

In all seriousness, though, those things are likely embedded into your mattress as well, and a soaking of Lysol will probably not kill them all.

You can try bleaching the sheets to see if they go away, but you might have to replace the mattress altogether, and it would be worthwhile getting new sheets while you're at it. (expensive I know)

Nah, they're not in the mattress. The mattress is gray and I couldn't find any of those bright red tiny bugs. Not even when I took apart the mattress and looked at the foam were they there. These bugs don't nest in mattresses like bed bugs or fleas. They move a lot, and most of them are already gone, I just want to make sure they are gone before I sleep in my bed again. I have been sleeping on the couch for a couple days now.

I know lol. I might just not add bleach then, if the detergent will kill them. If that's the case, a shit ton of detergent and hot ass water will kill them, lol.

the question is what you going to do with the jeans?

I will wash all of my clothes as well. They're still in my laundry basket for some reason so might as well just do the same. I haven't been bitten anymore since a couple days ago, wearing the clothes that are near the jeans. I will wash them thoroughly anyway, just to be safe. I think most of them went to my bedding while I was being stupid and taking a nap and if any are in my jeans still they will be killed as well.
