Okay, first, I'd like to start out by saying sorry for my ignorance in this topic. I already think that X99 is the what I should go for, but I just need someone to confirm my suspicions.

For what? budeget?? highend/low end? Gaming? rendering?

EDIT: Follow your topic so you can tell when people reply.

Well here in the UK a Core i7-5820K is actually cheaper so regardless to whether you need the extra cores or not I would go with X99 since it is better value. The Z170 and X99 boards aren't much different in price and both need DDR4 RAM.

You can get Z170's cheaper but for a mid-range you're looking at around £130-150 on Scan (UK, not sure where you are mate) and you can get a decent X99 board for about £150 so that is what I would go for mate.

Before you made a decision, what is your current specs, budget and uses for the PC?

Where are you? Skylake is barely any more expensive than mainstream Haswell in the U.S. (like $20–30 extra for the memory), but in some places Skylake seems to be nearly as expensive as Haswell-E.

If you aren't paying much more for it, may as well get the 5820K.

Wow here in the UK I think they're anally screwing us all but then again I think Australia is worse for that lol

European/UK prices will probably come down over time to be more like i5-4690K/4790K prices, but for the OP's benefit I don't think Skylake is impressive enough to wait that long.

Sorry, guys my internet failed for a bit, I need to get ethernet. For intense rendering, gaming, video editing. I'm located in the US.

Here's the pcpartpicker link:

get a better power supply. Besides that everything looks great. If you can take advantage of the extra cores go for it!

Then I would look into the Core i7-5820K, I don't think the extra cost of the 5930K is worth it.

To me? It sounds like spending an extra $30 to get an extra two cores plus extra hyperthreading on those? That's a no-brainer to me tbh. X99 with i7-5820k will suit your rendering and video editing better and it'll game almost as good as the i7-6700k but the difference there will be minor compared to the rendering/editing gains on that 5820k. :)

The 5930k really is a niche product. Its really only for those that want to do 4 way SLI without using the plx chip or that use a lot of things that need the extra pcie lanes. I could imagine a video editor wanting like 4 1.2 TB intel 750 drives with a dual vid card set up that maybe didn't want to opt for the extra 500 for the 5960x to get the extra lanes. For the average enthusiast the 5930k really isnt common.

I don't understand what you two are talking about. On the part list it states a 5820k. I'm planning to upgrade to the 5960x later for the reasons you listed.

are you getting paid to render? if yes go for the 5960x. if not it's not worth the cost and stick with a 5820k.

Really? It's been lighting up the entire CPU subforum. If you want more info, you should check out the other threads, I feel like they are more informative than this one. Glad to help.
