Slow Steam Downloads?

My internet is totally fine but for some reason tonight steam is having problems going above 200KBs and for the past 10 mins i have been trying different random servers around the world with no luck of a better speed. I have also checked for any background applications and stuff but nothing.
Any ideas?

Desktop: CPU: I7-5820K GPU: 980Ti, 750Ti PhysX Mobo: MSI X99A SLI PLUS RAM: 4x4 Kingston DDR4 2400MHz OS: Win10

I have 300mb internet. Get 250kb in steam. It always sucks

Well, what is your download speed according to something like speedtest.net?

About 5.5MBs or 580KBs actual speed and that's even what i was getting this morning but just bought Elite Dangerous and trying to download it but yeah it just wont :/

Do you have a bandwidth cap?

That is because speedtest results are in Mb/s (megabits per second) while Steam downloads are in MB/s (megabytes per second). There are 8 Mbs in a MB.

No its Unlimited

I know this thats why i said speed test says 5.5MBs while my ACTUAL speed is 580KBs

Its really annoying me as i want to play Elite Dangerous tonight, not tomorrow :/ i have tried speed test, youtube at 1080p and downloading off other places and its all perfectly fine.

speedtest using bit ( b )  by default, not Byte ( B )

 

to make it sure, just post your speedtest results.

Yeah the whole bit and byte is confusing but my actually download speed is 580kbs as speed test says about 5.5mb, and steam is currently downloading at 40kbs and i just dont know why :/

5.5mbps = 5500kbps = 687KB/s

 

so getting 580KB is about right, 100 KB less but it still within acceptable.

 

1 Byte = 8 bit

 

no need to confuse, even math at 2nd grade more confusing than converting Byte to bit.

Yeah i know how it works, but that doesn't explain why im only getting like 50kbs download on steam when just this morning i was doing 580kbs or why i can download on bittorent at 550kbs on the same computer while loading a 1080p vid on youtube while watching it fine but yet steam wont go above 100kbs
