What do you mean by this? If you want a hard way, you can always learn web design and programming.

Well, a hard way would be to do everything in code.

Overkill and building a website doesn't really go hand in hand. I guess buying a dual Xeon workstation for building the website is overkill.

Then go watch Lynda tutorials on web design and web development and do it yourself.

SquareSpace is a good option. WordPress.com is also a good option.

You could always use 3rd party options like http://wpengine.com/ for 100% managed hosting, or you could do https://wovax.com if you wanted a mobile app as well as a website.

I guess it really depends on what you need, your budget, and how much time you have

Overkill:

Write a whole back end CMS framework yourself in either PHP (for more of a challenge use a framework like Laravel), Node.JS, ASP .net (yuck, but it's an option)...

Use a DB for storage, extra points for Mongo but MariaDB or MySQL would do.

Write the whole front end in a javascript framework like:

Angular

React

Backbone

Ember

Then build an architecture with it hosted geographically in multiple places using a CDN.

Easy: SquareSpace / Blogger

Hard: Custom host, custom coded with html5, CSS etc.

Overkill: Paying some advertising company to do it for you and host it with plan that costs most.
