logitech g430's are dope

Seconded, they are great for the price.

From my trying them out at electronics/media stores the virtual surround in them is terrible and makes the audio sound terrible and they are uncomfortable as hell with practically solid feeling earcups where they should be soft.

I would recommend buying some Sennheiser HD 439's or sol republic master tracks if you've got ~$100-$120 to spare. If you NEED a microphone however, I would suggest a cheapish $10-30 microphone you can clip on like this or something a bit nicer.

Gaming PC: CPU: i7 4770k@4.2GHz w/ CM Nepton 140xl, GPU: Gigabyte 1070 @2050, RAM: ADATA XPG V1 16GB@2133MHz, Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 7, Case: Corsair NZXT S340.

I second HD 439's, extremely cheap, you can get them for like $40 on sale and is amazing for what its worth. The design is meh, but the audio quality is great. Removable cable (you get a long and short one).

Though the Audio-Technica Audiophile ATH-AD700 are already a very decent pair of cans and even better for gaming with the fact that they are open back. Did you break them? If it still works, I don't see the need to upgrade.

Also, really virtual surround....? 1) it ruins audio quality 2) you could probably better pinpoint sounds with the open back without the need for that garbage virtualization muddling the audio

I thought I broke them when I was cleaning the cups. It was producing no sound.

They work again.

But they do look beaten up though. The outside metal grill on the right is dented.

I don't know I can't go back to 2.1 >__>

Ad700x? Bit more than $100 but better than any crappy Logitech headset. Your ad700 are better than any headsed listed here too, headphones are always better than headsets at that price point.

Virtual surround headsets are awful and Tinny (I've owned a40s, turtle beach px5, corsair h1500)

Gpu: MSI 4G GTX 970 | Cpu: i5 4690k @4.6Ghz 1.23v | Cpu Cooler: Cryorig r1 ultimate | Ram: 1600mhz 2x8Gb corsair vengeance | Storage: sandisk ultra ii 128gb (os) 1TB WD Green | Psu: evga supernova g1 650watt | Case: fractal define s windowed |

Also, when I mean virtual surround I meant dolby headphone. That's the same thing right?

Yeah I think all virtual surround headsets use dolby, some use Dolby digital live and some use Logic Pro ii
