Quick Windows 10 Question

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Ok. You are good. You need to wait for your wave.
However, you can force it to upgrade now.

Simply go to the registry, at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/WindowsUpdate/OSUpgrade

Create a new DWORD called: AllowOSUpgrade and set its value to 1.

Now open the Command Prompt as true Admin, and type and hit enter: wuauclt.exe /updatenow
Now open Windows Update, and hit: "check for update" on the side column.
Windows 10 download should appear.

I know... Windows 10 question... Don't kill me :P

I still haven't received the windows 10 update icon on my taskbar and was wondering if this is because my hardware is not supported/lacks driver support for the update or is it because my Windows 7 is not fully updated with everything MS pushes out? Wanted to know before I download a whole bunch of useless updates...

Just FYI I don't have auto-update turned on for MS updates so I don't download all of the mostly because I don't need to. And yes I have looked online and on the MS FAQ which wasn't helpful.

System: Thinkpad T460

Just use this, like the other 10 billion threads suggest

EDIT: Also, Microsoft has said that some people don't get the notification because they can't confirm hardware compatibility with some PCs.

I was unsure about doing that because of possible discordance with hardware & OS

Don't worry, you will not have problems using this. I used it once, got it installed and activated just fine.

You have to have your OS up to date before you will receive the icon for the Win10 upgrade. This is stated in the upgrade FAQ sheet.

In some cases you will not receive the icon as your system will not be up the required minimum standards (which is very seldom).

You can use the media creation tool to do a forced update / clean install but there has been some downsides to this (very few cases).

You need to have the auto update turned on in order to receive the upgrade. There are 3 specific updates you must have to get the upgrade icon to appear. If you haven't updated in a while it will take several runs of your updater to get your pc up to speed.

Why don’t I have the Get Windows 10 app?

Your device might be missing an update. Running Windows Update and installing any available updates could fix this issue. Need more help? If you don’t see the Get Windows 10 app on your PC, take a look at this article that includes troubleshooting steps.

  1. Make sure Windows is fully updated

Also make sure you have the latest Win7 drivers, before starting the upgrade process to have a smooth upgrade experience

Also, uninstall all A/V, including MSE, firewall, and anti-malware. (you can install them back once your upgraded in Win10)

An email is not required it just send you an acknowledgment that you reserved that is all.

Once your system is all updated you will see the option to upgrade  in the Updater.

I let my system set for about an hour after all the updates were finished and it was there. Just check the updater later or so. Just make you open the windows updater.

Been like this for a while:

Do you know the difference between waiting till MS sends you the update and using the update tool from here: https://www.microsof...nload/windows10?

You could wait, I did. It could take anywhere from an hour to a couple of days. MS did say that the downloads would done in waves.

If you want to do a forced upgrade I cant help you there, as I did not go that route, I have heard some iffy stories so far in the forum on this. You would be safer just waiting if you are not familiar with .iso's.
