hi i have a dell dimension 4600 and it has two SATA pulgs on it and i was wondering if i could get a WD 500gb hard drive? and what is the difference between sata 1.5gb/s and sata 3gb/s?

OLD Laptop: Dell Latitude E6410 with i5 520m and Nvidia NVS 310

Laptop's: Dell precision m2800 i7 4610m with amd firepro w4170m

other laptop Asus.

just the speeds are differnent,but if you use a regular hdd it would even come close to using the 1.5gb.

Not exactly bit something like this:

 

You can get the hdd as the connectors are backwards compatible.

The speeds are different but the plugs are the same and SATA is backwards compatible so you could use a SATA 3 drive on a SATA 1/2 port. 1.5gb/s is SATA1 interface while the 3gb/s is SATA2.

The Seagate Barracuda (2 year warranty) drives are affordable drives imo. But if you want high reliability, get a WD Caviar Black (5 year warranty) drive. But I have been using Seagate Barracuda drives for all my builds and have never lost a drive yet.
