there is no stock cooler on the 5820k.

cm 212 evo would work on a 5820k but it'll limit your max OC; I would estimate around 1.2v max.

Don't underestimate the 212 EVO. It's almost 7 inches tall FFS! Don't let the price fool you. Also the 5820k doesn't come with a stock cooler, the 212 EVO will work great

212 is just too good for the price. If you're cash-strapped there is no other choice.

It's also quieter than the stock cooler..

cooler doesnt control voltage, are you saying your temps hit the limit at that voltage with that cooler(which noctua??? there are so many)?

the avg temp was fine on the noctua air u14s cooler but it would spike past 85C so I couldn't increase the voltage further safely.

I don't think that's normal... I had a 5820k under a 212 evo that wouldn't go past 72° but I didn't overclock I guess

stock voltage is about 1.

n you should overclock. you get a 20%+ gain going from stock to 4.4ghz.

It's a computer I built for my grandma. She wanted to play the Sims 3. (No I didn't pick out the parts)

that really doesnt sound normal... I have one of the most pitiful water coolers in existence and a chip with a bad TIM between the die and heat spreader and I'm running at 1.272V at 80C tops

and its a consumer grade chip... a 3570K

at least it's gonna be future proof for about 10 yrs.

the mainstream lga 115x chips use a much smaller die than the enthusiast grade lga 2011 chips. look at the power consumption figures for haswell-e and you'll see what kind of beasts they are overclocked.
