something very odd

hi guys

i was converting videos on my Thinkpad T530 using quicksync

 

and i noticed something very strange

 

if i have my laptop flat on a table its temp converting is around 55c  and using 20 watts according to Coretemp

 

if i have the laptop at a 90* degree angle (laptop screen is facing up )

the temp goes down to 50c quickly then slowly rises up to 98c

+the air that the fan was pushing wasn't really that hot at all

 

whats the reason ?

 

 remember noticing this on other laptops too

 

if u have a laptop try it out by running prime 95 on a single core or something

i thought of that

but i pulled apart many laptops and they are really bolted on the boards tight

and most of them have this same issue

 

 the only thing i can think of is hot air gets trapped inside but that doesn't sound right

its an old habit

my old HP used to heat up a lot

the entire body would give of heat

 

so i put it at an angle so there wont be any obstructions
