Gettin' pretty sick of people not understanding what kind of data is being collected from Windows 10 users and the way said data is being used.

If people would just bother reading the Privacy Policy they'd have a better idea on what's going on, instead of being gullible sheep willing to believe anyone just so they can feel themselves included in a group.

Let apps use my advertising ID: This helps Microsoft present you with more personalized ads in apps. You can safely turn this off without it really affecting your user experience.

Turn on SmartScreen Filter: This sends the URLs you visit in Windows Store apps to Microsoft to check them against a list of potentially harmful sites. Google Chrome does this as well, locally, and only submits your URL if you have usage statistics enabled. You can turn it off if you so desire, but be careful when you browse. Note that this only affects the SmartScreen filter in Windows Store apps—if you want it turned off in the Edge browser, where you’re more likely to use it, you’ll have to do that in Edge’s Advanced Settings (see below).

Send Microsoft info about how I write: This feature improves text completion suggestions when you handwrite or type (presumably on the touch keyboard, though it doesn’t say. That’s very broad, and we’ll talk about it more in a bit. I recommend turning this off.

Let websites provide locally relevant content: If you speak a language other than English, this feature could be useful, but feel free to turn it off if you’d rather sites not know what language your system uses.

 

In short, most people can probably turn off these settings and not be affected.

The Smartscreen Fitler is just a protection not privacy invasion, and Microsoft are not the only one that send your URL to check if it malicious or not. ESET, Kaspersky, BitDefender, Norton, McAfee, Avast, or AVG do the same thing to.

Basic diagnostic data can be everything from what apps youre using, what youre doing/visiting on those apps. And your browser is considered an app.

While I'll admit to the wording being susceptible to interpretation, it does specify that it's vital to the operation of Windows, which leads me to believe it has nothing to do with personal data and rather more to do with self diagnostics, error management and reporting and so on

It's not going to happen, people will believe what they want and call you all manner of names because you disagree.  The childlike mentality they have will mean no amount of logic will prevail.

 

The privacy statement is pretty clear, the lack of evidence supporting the claims private data is being logged and the fact that only internet forums with children are talking about this (as opposed to tech security specialists, business IT consultants, governments suddenly switching to linux etc).  Which means only the rational will understand what is happening here.

 

Also interesting to see more people claim to understand the data that is being collected while less people have actually read the statement.   Which means someone is believing what they are being told on the internet and not going straight to the source for clarification.

Cortana has saved my corporate ass more times than I care to mention just because I let her read my email. I'll give Microsoft any amount of dickpics and funny gifs they would ever want as tribute just for that.
