1080p Card

Go to solution Solved by ZetZet,

How would the 380 match up and all? newer technology etc.

30-40% slower.

R9 290 is pretty much the same as R9 390 performance wise.

Didnt notice you answered my question. and do you know perhaps how much it would be to actually consume the power difference in prices?

power consumption in prices is not a big deal at all. it's like 100w difference at full load between r9 290 and 970. So ~10 hours at full load ~1kWh difference ( not exactly, hard to calculate exactly).

Heat wise though r9 290 would produce quite a bit more heat than a 970.

Hey guys,

Would a 290 be good for 1080p resolution? Currently im using one monitor but i intend to expand to 3 over the course of the next year or so.

Right now 290 prices are reaching ~210 220, so its making the 960 obsolete more or less. However playing at ~60 fps is fine for me and i intend to sli them somewhere down the road perhaps. How good/effective would the 290 be? I have a 750watt gold 80 power supply from Seasonic . Also is there any improvement from getting a 290x or perhaps something like a 970 from Nvidia's side?

I'm not really particularly based on either brand but is the 290 direct12x optimized?

Thanks for your help.

Edit:Also how significant would the power consumption be? I looked @ Anand's review but i cant seem to translate that into real life usage.

Yes 290 would blaze it at 1080p. And yes it supports dx12 and yes it's as good as 970. And yes it's not worth buying 290x. And yes 750W would be enough even for two 290's.

The 380 is actually quite a bit more inferior than the 290.

power consumption in prices is not a big deal at all. it's like 100w difference at full load between r9 290 and 970. So ~10 hours at full load ~3.6kWh difference ( not exactly, hard to calculate exactly).

Thanks for all the help ZetZet! I'd probably get a 290 down the road then although the HIS one currently is hitting the ~210 220 mark however it shows horrible feedback via NewEgg. Also there's no way under full load would i ever make the difference in money although in NY, electricity is ridiciously high at 16.25 compared to the national average of 10.45,

Thanks again ZetZet!

I'd probably get the 290 then! Thanks alot.

You mean crossfire :). A 290 would be a great choice over a 380.
