Hi all,

I'm looking for my 'perfect' mechanical keyboard. I would like:

Cherry MX red switches

A full red backlight

105 Key ISO layout (UK)

Black casing

Preferably costar stabilisers

Although the price is a factor, I don't really mind, although I would like to set a max of £120. Under £100 would be perfect, but I'm not sure anything exists at that price range :(

I like the aesthetics of filco and ducky boards (any simplistic board really), but they are too expensive. The cm storm quickfire xt would be perfect if it had a backlight.

I also recently made a thread about the cm storm quickfire ultimate, but I have gone off that board now because I think it looks a tad ugly.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :D

Yeah, I'll edit that, I just want recommendations really. I have realised that I am going to have to spend some more money on one.

Ducky Zero Shine? Not sure about the UK layout though....

I'd thought you weren't interested in back light when you'd mentioned Filco, they don't make any KB with back light AFAIK.

I do quite like the tk and have typed on one at an exhibition, but I don't like the merged numpad and arrow keys. It really annoys me for some reason - you would have to switch between them all the time

Then I doubt you will be able to get what you want for your price.

I've edited my post and changed the max to £120, giving me many more options. I would prefer a cheaper board, but I would like to see my options.

Then buy a Ducky Shine 2, let me find you one.

Edit: I can't but there's a Shine 3 for an extra £20

It's quite weird how hard it is to find one with red switches and a red backlight.

Wow, didn't notice how cheap these were on amazon. Unfortunately, I probably won't catch it because I'm still waiting to get my money back after being scammed on ebay :(

I have tried a friend's Mk50 and it is really nice.

Well, considering my last topic was abruptly terminated, I shall attempt to find an answer here. :P

I would prefer a costar keyboard over the other equivalents (ione etc). I would like to know of keyboards that have costar stabilisers and full backlights.

Thanks

well, since the mk-85 is still 100pounds with two available, and at least the mk-50 has coastars, that is depending on the time you get your money back your best option.

I do think so. It's just the flack that iOne gets sometimes that puts me off. However, I have tried both the mk-50 and mk-85 and they both felt great and sturdy. Hopefully I'll be able to grab one :D

Cherry MX reds are bad but why the Corsair K95?

1. Switch type is personal preference. I like reds, especially for gaming

2. I never mentioned the corsair K95

I meant to say why NOT the k95 but my hands couldn't keep up with my brain. Yes, switch type is a preference, but don't they feel really light? I need tactile feedback, and louder keys, cherry mx blues aren't loud at all. I need Greens to annoy my family more :)

Ah. I was looking at the black K70 actually, but it is quite expensive at the moment and uses cherry stabilises which make the stabilised keys feel mushy when you bottom out - this isn't too much of an issue really.

I have tried cherry mx reds, blacks, browns and blues and my favourites are red and browns. I would get browns but the tactile feedback for gaming annoys me because it slightly delays the keypress with the bump (like a membrane keyboard). I also like how the reds feel, once you get used to typing on them they are great, I just love how different they are from membrane keyboards, just a consistent smooth depression.

I assumed that there was no point of Cherry MX Reds because they would feel like a membrane, but I guess any Mechanical Switch won't feel like a membrane keyboard.

I don't see how a linear switch can feel like a membrane because membranes have a definite bump to them because of the way the rubber dome is depressed. To me, linear switches are the complete opposite of membranes.
