If silence is the primary concern, get the Silent Base 800.

silence is not a huge concern as i have headphones on most of the time but my corsair case vibrates sometimes which is annoying

The h440 would be the quietest, but can have problems with airflow. The base 800 would have a little better airflow but be louder. The air 540 has amazing airflow (possibly the best on the market), but doesn't dampen sound as much.

i see you have the air 240 how loud would you say it is i guess my c70 is louder because it has so many vents

Well noise is mostly affected by the fans, with it only varying much when a case has noise dampening foam or has construction problems. My PC is pretty quiet, but not enough for me. I want a really quiet PC and the case fans and PSU fan are ok, but the stock intel CPU cooler is driving me insane.

You could still get the Be quiet dark rock TF. It is designed so that it is compatible with either tall ram or short cases. There is also the cooler master nepton 240m, which has a very nice quality pump and nice fans, so it is very quiet.

I have the Corsair Air 540.  It's a great case,  with great airflow.  It's a fairly quiet case as long as your fans are quiet.  I don't really hear anything when I am playing games,  and my case is on my desk about, 1.5 to 2 feet away from me.

oh thanks for your input what are the stock AF140Ls like i have AF120 in my case at the moment and noctua nff12s. can you put a 3.5inch harddrive behind the mobo in the back bit

Wrong.

Silverstone rv05/ft05 have best air cooling temps on the market, followed by ft02/rv02

silent base 800 non windowed because it is really good silence-wise.

the stock AF140Ls (I have the Air 540) are really good at moving air but are 1000rpm so..they're quiet and even with the filter in the front there is quite a lot of air being moved. I say get the silent base 800 without the window but the air 540 would be my second choice. I don't like the H440 because of the really limited airflow.
