Hi all,

I am going to replace my now dead AMD HD 7870 graphics card but would like some input on what to choose.

The card was from an older build that was taken for my current build, which has an Asus Sabertooth Z87 and an Intel i7-4770k and 16GB of ram (I may upgrade to 32GB in the future). The main uses of this machine will gaming as well as running virtual machines and database stuff (combined work pc and gaming pc). For games, I am hoping either 1440p gaming or possibly 4k.

Right now, I am considering either two 970s in sli or a single 980 ti.

Anything else though would be considered.

Thanks!

Only go for the single stronger GPU.

What kind of FPS do,you wanna get? What settings will you be playing at? Also what resolution?

I would go for a GTX 980 Ti because for a single card you can get the performance of most cards in SLI/Xfire

CPU: i7-8700K I CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 GPU: ROG Strix 1080 Ti MoBo: ROG Strix Z370-E RAM:  G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB)   PSU: CORSAIR HXi Series HX1000i Case: Corsair Air 540 Display: 24" 1920X1080p 144Hz ASUS - 27" 2560X1440p 144Hz Dell OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit

970 or 390

970 has lower temps, lower noise

390 is louder and has higher temps but is SLIGHTLY SLIGHTLY SLIGHTLY more powerful in SOME games... but has 8gb vram which will be very kawaii for the future.

I have had both 970 and 390 but I chose to stay with 970 cuz 390 was a bit too loud for my liking.

If you want 1440p or higher 980TI hands down.

PS: DO NOT get sli 970 it is not known yet if vram will stack and 1 good card is ALWAYS better than 2 cards. If you can afford 2 970s get a 980ti
