Gaming at true 144hz?

Gdourado

Hello, how are you?

So, I want to jump on the GSync wagon.

I was thinking about getting the swift at 144hz 1440p.

But then I started reading about numerous issues with the monitor and that got me researching a bit...

Then I started seeing some benchmarks of AAA recent games and most of them at 1440p max settings don't go past 70-75 fps...

Those same games as 1080p can go to 110-120 fps.

If I drop the settings a notch, 144 fps are obtainable at 1080p, but really hard at 1140p...

So, this brings me to the question...

Would it be more enjoyable to play games at 1080p at frame rates above 120?

Or go for more resolution but play at 70 fps?

I like to play action games and shooters.

My favorite games are far cry 3 and 4, assassins creed iv, Tomb raider, battlefield 4, skyrim, witcher, and the likes.

What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers!

what GPU u see on the Benchmark? anyway, 144hz mostly used for professional gamer on CS,etc. 1440P 144Hz is pretty hard to run unless you bump down the setting a little bit.

I'd take 1440p 60fps all day anyday.

It depends on what you want. Personally I'm fine with 60hz at a higher resolution, and unless you're playing highly competitive games (NOT bf4) at an almost professional level you won't NEED 120+hz, although of course it's always nice to have.

It also depends on your hardware; what gpu(s) do you have? I'd also like to point out that gsync is in very early stages and personally I'd stay away for some time. We have yet to see what will happen with freesync in the future and buying into gsync now means you're locked in to nvidia gpus for years to come.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

1440p 144hz is pretty hard to run, ya know. What graphics card are you using?

Yeah just read your sig. I don't know how 2 970s will do 1440p 144hz, they won't max it though. I would choose a monitor based on the games you play.

I am rebuilding my rig.

GPU will be a single 980TI.

I am just wondering if playing at 144hz will make for a more enjoyable experience.

Everyone says the movement in fast pacing games is an eye opener at 144hz...

If you could keep every game at 144 FPS, you wouldn't need Gsync. From what I understand, 70–75 FPS with Gsync has the perceived smoothness of much higher framerates.

The thing is that a single 980ti cannot do 144hz at 1440p...

So I will not be gaming at 144hz if I go 1440p.

Of course you can. Dude, 980Ti is the perfect Card for it. And with Gsync it doesnt matter. 80fps will feel as awesome as 144fps. I own one, i know it.

If you're convinced you want a swift you can try both, but realistically you can probably play 1440x144 of you turn things to high or medium high

I think France rate is more important than resolution

With a single 980ti, some games yes but most will not get you 144fps. It has already been stated by a lot of people and benchers that for best results at 1440p 144hz sli 980ti is the way to go.  Running a single ti at the moment with my ROG swift and already planning to go sli.  Also op im not sure what issues you might have read about, but my swift has been top notch sense I got it.

I am talking about these issues:

And on other sites, there are always tons of reports of multiple issues with the swift.

Reading all that makes me think twice before buying.

What about the XB280HK?

Games can be run at 45-55 fps at 4k with a single 980ti.

That really depends on the game. Also I get 144fps or more in every single game I play but I do have a more expensive pc than the average person.

I had No idea, but by the sounds of it I got lucky in that mine was manufactured after November 2014 witch seems to be when they started to come from ASUS mostly problem free.  If I had known this from the start I would probably not have purchased but I will also say Im glad I didnt and do not regret my decision.  If you really want 144hz I would give the swift a try that or the Acer one that i hear is also great.
