xeons aren't good in gaming really. the H60 isn't good for cooling, and also I would only be able to upgrade to a I7 and not OC it past 4GHZ , not really worth the money to price. 16GB's of ram is nice tho and the 770 but the 770 will be bottleneck by the CPU sadly.

Xeons are basically i7's without the overclocking capability. And because you cant overclock, you dont really need a high cooling solution.

1. You will need that much power when u are streaming

2. Also you will need atleast 16 gigs of ram when you want to edit your content.

3. You can get an air cooling solution aswell. It's your choice. You can put in a Hyper 212 in there since you cant overclock Xeons.

CPU's are like tools, each tool has a specific job that it is optimised for, Xeon processors are optimised for business level applications and are designed to not fail under full load 24 hours a day. This does not make them better for gaming, indeed, the 4670k is the best processor for gaming. If someone is streaming as well most people recommend the 4770k as the hyperthreading allows for transcoding on the fly and more multi-tasking features such as streaming and processors on the X97 chipset will do this even better, but Xeon chips are different, they don't handle gaming as well though they offer sufficient performance for streaming. A 4770k is recommended on XSplit forums for 1080p streaming and the 4670k is adequate for 720p...

You have a point when it comes to the editing, however even I find it hard to utilise more than 8gb of RAM for rendering alone

About the H60, I have no problems at all with AIO watercoolers, I think they're great... Just the H60 sucks

Finally, sorry if I sound like a tool, it's not my intent

I am good at computer

Don't forget to grab an aftermarket cooler anyway with the xeon. I don't think it comes with one.

He says  that he is going to so video editing on his rig so i think he is better off with 8 threads on a workstation-grade cpu rather than a Haswell 4 core... also that xeon costs as much as the 4670k, so why not? Don't forget that he has a budget.

You are right, 8 Gb of ram is enough for gaming, but i don't know how much ram the streaming software uses, so i want to be on the safe side.

you can put in a Hyper 212 if you want.

The zeon is good as a work horse CPU, gaming it's out done by the I5 in real games not in cynybench and such. Also xeons get bottle necked far to easy, let's say I where to buy a second GPU, it would be bottle necked. They are only worth the money if you are only doing editing, not recording and such.

Not that many things can actually take advantage of the extra threads. Single faster cores would perform better most of the time.

Games are not that cpu heavy but many do not take advantage of hyperthreading or do not work as well with it and the xeon has pretty powerful cores. The xeon wouldn't bottleneck even with an extra gpu.

This may change with future games and gpus becoming more cpu intensive which is why the 4670k would be the better choice.

I agree. A Xeon is fine as long as it's clocked high enough. It's built on nearly identical silicon as an i5 or i7, simply has different parts enabled or disabled. It will work fine for gaming and streaming.

Elric had two of them and they where bottle necked by 2 680's. a 7970, 770, and 780 are much more powerful cards. A xeon with in a reasonable price point would bottle neck.

They can't be oced tho, so it's base and turbo. I went with the 6300 if anyone is wondering.

He had two of the 6 core Xeons that were at 2Ghz. The Xeons people listed are clocked identically to a stock i5 or i7.

That's what I was referring to "clock speed" mattering. It only Turbos to 2.5, while the E3 1220 V2 is 3.1-3.3
