I was recently looking for Windows 10 Pro retail for my upcoming build and it seems there's actually 3 release dates!

DVD Box: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1168588-REG/microsoft_fqc_08930_windows_pro_10_64.html  - August 16th

Flash Drive - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Pro-Flash-Drive/dp/B01019TDJ8/ref=sr_1_2?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1438047797&sr=1-2&keywords=Microsoft+Windows+10+Pro+DVD - August 30th

OEM System Builder - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-System-Builder-Disc/dp/B00ZSHDJ4O/ref=sr_1_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1438047797&sr=1-1&keywords=Microsoft+Windows+10+Pro+DVD - August 5th

So, why all the different release dates?  Kinda curious what the flash drive packaging looks like, but I'm more likely buying it the old fashioned way on optical media "I like retail packaging" and I think it'll have the best unless the dvd and flash drive have the same packaging.

Holy shit $199.99 for the USB stick? What kind of USB stick costs $50? Windows 10 Pro is only $149.99!

I don't think it matters what medium you buy it on the price is the same and $199 isn't that bad... but c'mon compared to OS X prices which is what? $30 per upgrade?  And back when you can buy it on DVD it was like $99!

win 10 pro is only $150? thats nice actually. Was expecting it to be $200 like the flash drive.

The flash drive is overpriced. Unless of course its a 64GB that you can reuse or something. I guess it makes a good conversation piece otherwise.

Maybe it has a cool glowing Windows logo for an activity LED. Still not worth the extra $50 on top of the already expensive OS.

OS X is completely free now. You can wipe OS X off your mac and retrieve a free copy of the latest update from apple through the recovery mode lol (i know this because I actually broke my mac trying to triple boot win, OS X, and linux 3 times xD)

But yes it used to be around $30-40 in the snow leopard days if I remember correctly

That's only recently though with Maverics, it may change if it's a MAJOR upgrade.  It's apple after all, no better than microsoft.

As for the flashdrive, I would still personally love to have an iso on hand at all times and of course you can reformat it and use it as you wish but I personally wouldn't unless it's to update the ISO version.

No it's free for Mavericks as well as Yosemite.  The only trick is you can only download it on a Mac, so to make a Hackintosh you have to have a Mac already or borrow someone else's. I have to format a lot of Macbooks at my work, so I know a thing or two about them.

As for the flash drive, I carry a tiny one in my wallet all the time with Ubuntu on it, comes in handy.

The only thing that bugs me is why does a 32 bit version exist?... It's 2015 man!  We were supposed to have hoverboards, and delorean time machines!

To be fair, a Hackintosh is actually 100% against the ToS of Mac OS X, and thus if you download OS X for use on a Hackintosh, you're actually pirating the OS. It's "Free" for Mac Hardware users, because the cost is paid via the hardware.

My guess is legacy hardware compatibility, mostly for industrial and commercial sectors.

I was hoping they would force 64-bit for retail, and have a 32-bit special edition for industry or something, but alas, maybe next time.

To be fair, Basically every distro of Linux still comes with a 64-bit, 32-bit (P4 era - i686) and 32-bit (486 era - i486) versions, and no one seems to give a shit about that (Even the "lul Linux is dah bestest!" guys).
