Is it possible for me to get Windows 10 for free if I haven't pre ordered it before the 29th

There is no pre-ordering windows 10.

 

You can reserve your free upgrade. Microsoft is allowing people to upgrade to Windows 10 in waves.

 

Yes if you dont reserve you can still upgrade for free. You have 1 year to do so. (Until July 29th *2016*)

I have been told that is 3gb, and that it has been downloading in the background in the past few weeks by the GWX icon. Then on the 29th it will install and you have Windows 10.

Nah, it won't auto install that'd be silly. I can't make up my mind on if I want to actually upgrade to it cause I don't feel like being a 0day victim.

You can get it any time for free after the 29th for 1 year then you have to pay. But you missed the first wave so you won't get it on the 29th.

The reserve of Windows 10 is just for you to enjoy it on day 1 or as soon as possible, and not have to battle through busy servers.

You need to UPGRADE your Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 to get it for free. But once you upgraded, you can download your ISO and clean install Windows 10 directly. Presumingly it will be like Windows 8 at it's release. You'll get a setup that you run under Windows 7/8.1, it will give you a new product key, and allow you to save the ISO, make a DVD or USB flash drive. That is my guess, But we will have to wait and see the exact process.
