PCPartPicker List

It's missing a PSU but it'll be a 500W Ultra I have just laying around and the HDD is a Referb from Newegg. Right now, the total price from Newegg is $245.

The goal of this build it to just upgrade my girlfriends out dated. How outdated? Northwood Pentium 4, 1G DDR memory and Geforce 6200. The goal is to be able to browse YouTube and play World of Warcraft's LFR at higher than low settings at a resolution of 1280x1040. Potentially with 2 monitors running WoW and YouTube at the same time. The max budget is a pretty strict $250. There's a small amount of flexibility but not much.

Comments? Suggestions? Anything and everything.

might want to chose a better HDD

...There isn't really a better 7200 rpm hdd than the barracuda other than the caviar black.

The budget is tight because she's using her tax return and it's about $250. She can't really save because she barely makes enough to get by and being jobless myself, not much room. We're looking at a cheaper case, free up 20 or so bucks. I'm also looking to add the A6 instead of the A4. That puts it at $258, pretty much the limit. It's not an ideal situation and it's quite frustrating but it is what it is.

We looked into reusing her current CD Drive and her 2 HDD's but they are IDE and to make them work would cost just as much as getting new stuff. You might as well get a new HDD and CD Drive.

I know. I found some on Newegg but they were 12 bucks each.

So, I found a spare HDD so I no longer need one. I took the savings from that and actually switched out the Richland A4 for the Trinity A8. I figured a quad-core but an older generation is better than the dual-core. From the numbers I've seen, the difference between Richland and Trinity graphics is minimal.

That looks fine. You'd want faster ram for an APU since it uses your system's ram in place of it's own vram. Shoot for 1866 and 1600 minimum.

$8 over budget and it has some fast ram which will improve graphics performance. If you really want to save a little you can go with slower ram but i would not advise it. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1nbCD

I remember that the APU's used system RAM, just couldn't remember what spec it was.

Well, it turns out she's gonna wait and save about 500 for a computer. She's planning to get it from Wal-Mart, but we all know you can do better building it yourself. I'll look around the forum and see about putting together a new one. I'll make an other tread for it since it'll have a completely different scope.
