If you are not familiar with gas/propane refrigerators, they are commonly used in RV's. They use an ammonia water mixture for coolant and requires no moving parts. The system relys on the phase change of ammonia and water as well as a heat source to drive the reaction.

My thought is to use this to sub ambiant cool a computer with no moving parts!

The normal heat source of a flame could be replaced by an electric heater insulated to the generator to maximize efficiency.

Not sure of the thermal capacity of the system, and am wondering if this has been investigated?

Yep, people have done Freon cooled PC's (Freon is fridge gas, but I think on more modern/house hold refrigerators, not to sure).

They have that round the pipes to stop water condensing on the outside.

 

EDIT: This is not passive though, the fans cools the gas

It's very inefficient though. It's not impossible, just impractical.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

based on the Wikipedia link, it was phased out due to Carbon monoxide issues, with a electric heater that would it be an issue. And apparently there is a gas combo that is more efficient then ammonia butane and water
