Okay, so I know a bit about computers and such but I dont actually know what gpus are better, and how to tell, I know that a GTX 970 is worse that a 980 and such, But whats a 780 to a 980???

8 series is for mobile GPUs.

in Nvidia the "7" and the "9" stands for the series eg: 600, 700, 800, 900 series, the second set of number are the model or tier. 800 series was OEM MOBILE only and was just rebrand 700 stuff

Titan cards are above other ones, there are no 800 series GPUs for desktop PCs.

780 to 980 is that the 980 is replacing the 780 in the "80" slot of the GPU lineup. the 980 has a whole new architecture with improvements.

They skipped the 800 series for decktop full GPUs only. The 800 series uses the same architecture as the 700series of desktop cards for mobile. GTX 880 = GTX 980m. It a mobile GPU

It was older there was 500 series before that than there was 600 than 700 than 900 (800 was only for laptops, I really don't get why they did that)

The GTX 780 was the flagship graphics card at one point for Nvidia's last series of graphics cards, it used the GK110 GPU. That used the Keplar architecture.

The GTX 980 is the newer generation of Nvidia cards which uses the Maxwell architecture and uses the GM204 GPU.

In a scenario where Nvidia releases a graphics card called the GTX XYY, the X will represent the generation of graphics cards (e.g. 6, 7, 9 etc), and the YY will represent the model (e.g. 60, 70, 80).

In general, a GTX X50 will be the bottom of the range, an X60 will be the mid-end, X70 is high-end with X80 generally being the enthusiast grade graphics card. This varies with each generation, so do research.

There are also Ti variants of these graphics cards which is a mroe powerful version. For example, you have the GTX 780, but also the GTX 780 Ti which is a more powerful card.

yes, it is pretty old now, it was replaced by 780 and 780 was replaced by 980.

there also seems a pattern that the 80 line from an older generation can compete with the 70 from a newer generation, like 780 can compete with 970, 680 can compete with 770 (basically they are the same cards). though im not sure the 580 can compete with the 670 but im sure the 570 can compete with the 480. so by this pattern we can maybe predict the performance of the 1070 by looking at the 980, but again....HBM2

ti are usually a bit better version of the card, expect for 980ti, it is MUCH better than 980, best GPU for gaming right now

well arguably the 295x2 but its a dual gpu and there is the titan x but the titan x is not worth the extra money. the 980 ti and titan x perform very similarly

Ahh, now this is what I die thinking of, 295x2=590, so wont that still be much worse than a 980ti... I so CONFUSED!
