Because it uses a new memory tech, and is a physically larger chip so more materials cost.

Plus it has more cores. It's meant for prosumers/ enthusiasts. The 5820K isn't a very bad value.

Profit margin.. They know only those with serious cash(aka bleeding edge enthusiast) is gonna go for it, might as milk them dry when you

PS: mostly because of restricted production , mainly because few products are released & buyers will be low & they have to make "the profit" so voila, fck regular consumers , helloo rich folks..

Details separate people.

Since I'm one who would buy a Mac because they look nice of course I'm going to have higher standards for the aesthetic and reliability of a PC counter part. (I also want to get into content creation so spending a little more on better hardware can be beneficial too.

(I'm also restricting some hardware options because with the X99 system I feel that it'd be worth it in adding more options for the OS (of course I could drop in another SSD (250GB or 500GB) to be shared for the three Linux distros and maybe reduce or don't do the donations to free up $50 for the Z97 system, of course the X99 system could save money elsewhere to be in the same price bracket as the Z97 system.)
