I have a 128GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. My 2TB HDD does not turn on at start up and I can tell this because I cannot here the mechanical noise, this is quite annoying because when I want to access my documents or movies that are on my HDD it has a 5 second delay where the HDD has to boot up and I suppose it is a power saving feature.

Does this happen to you and also how can I make it so the HDD boots up at start up. Thanks

It's a Seagate 2TB HDD 7200rpm

In energy saving options, make sure that the hdd turns on at startup and that it is always on.

Does spinning up and down a lot wear the drive and potentially lower lifetime?

I think it lowers the lifetime less than if the HDD was spinning for 10hours per day without stopping, than starting and stopping 50 times and being off 5hours

Its mostly just for energy saving, It wont have a huge impact on the lifetime.
