Hey community,

For the past few months I`ve been building a custom case and it`s about done, and I wanted to check if components fit, if everything is ok and so on.

I will use pci express risers just because of the layout of the case... and this is were things get scary.

I tested one pci express riser (that I painted with white Plastidip and it worked well) then I wanted to see if I can put two pci express riser to see if I can flip the card.. so I just put one small one into a bigger one and started the pc, and .. well... smoke started to come out from the pci express slot... a quick shut down of the pc and this is what happend to the riser:

Now, is this because of a low quality riser? Is this because I connected two risers?

Does anyone know higher quality risers? Where to get them?

I am kinda paranoid now, since I maybe want to start selling some(wishful thinking, I know...) custom cases and if this happens to a client it will be extremely bad.

Any help will be extremely appreciated!!!

Take care,

Alex

I think connecting two risers is a bad idea. Kind of like connecting two power strips together.

Well, it's only a problem if you load up every power socket and continue daisy chaining power strips as you could potentially overload the circuit. Two PCIe riser cards attached together shouldn't cause any electrical issues.

Connecting power strips together at all is considered a fire hazard.

Oh, now I understand. Although I saw more people use them connected together, especially for long routes.

Then I`ll probably have to test them individually before using them.

So anyone knows were to get better quality ones?

Take care,

Alex
