Hi im putting a pc build together on pcpartpicker for an upcoming build and i get a compatibility note saying

: Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs.

does this matter?

it should work. it's not a newer chip and super old board.

What i would suggest is going for a z87 or z97 board for future upgrade and get a g3258.That cpu will hold for a few more years till you can afford something better.One myself i don't like amd boards because the cpu they offer are outdated.

Never had that motherboard but my "MSI 970 Gaming" did not need one!

 

Do yourself a favor and see how good the VRM is before you buy it!

this is true. A piledriver CPU was a addition to the 900 series chipset after it was introduced. It will require a updated bios/uefi. With that said, the CPU youre getting is almost 2 years old, and the motherboard probably already has the required BIOS/UEFI that out needs.

 

 

to add to that, I'd suggest a A88 based system if you want to go AMD.

Also you only get 4-core CPUs but yes those 4 cores have 10% IPC!

the AMD APUs offer much better ipc than piledriver ever did. You're looking at almost a 20% ipc increase from the piledriver parts to steamroller.
