For those of us who still remember the Hobson's choice with the 3.21 update of the PS3 firmware, the most recent update to the Nvidia Shield Portable is eerily similar. The update, which is necessary to run recent games and apps that require Android 5.0 APIs, removes some features from the device, and removes the games that were bundled with the device, Sonic 4 Episode II and The Expendables: ReArmed. Nvidia has stressed that it is an optional update, but how many users have been told for months that the update was coming, some of whom may have bought the device after the update was announced, only to find out now they won't receive all the functionality they paid for? How is it still legal for these companies to advertise and sell a whole product but only deliver part of it?

how is this legal? I about cried when I had to remove yellow dog linux from my ps3. I don't understand why they did this, they knew people would be mad, and they have been getting a bad rap for removing features lately (cough laptop overclocking even on MXM cards)

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Looks like i sold my Shield Portable at the best time. Managed to get what i paid for it back out of it. I do pity those that still use it. Waited months upon months for this update, only for it to do more harm than good.

I could be wrong, but I believe that google is asking companies to not include software on the lollipop updates, My Z2 had a lot of crapware apps installed by my service provider, but all of them were removed with the lollipop update.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

I love my shield portable, it really sucks to see nvidia taking it down a path like this. Up until this point, they have only added features to it. It doesn't make any sense to me what they could possibly gain from doing this.

 Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait Edition █ CPU: Intel i7-4790K █ GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 780Ti █ RAM: 8GB AVEXIR DDR3 1600  █ Storage: 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD + 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

█ Monitor: 21.5" 1080p 60Hz  PSU: 700w █ Case: Fractal Define R4 █       ...LTT Dark Theme master race.

Uh... because i'm guessing those games and features don't work on 5.1? Miracast I can see being the biggest issue because i'd assume they're still making updates to that, unless that can't be updated on the Shield. But the games, yea i'm assuming Sega and whoever makes that other game just aren't making updates for 5.1 and they don't work.

There's a game I wanna buy, The World Ends With You that I want for my phone but it doesn't work on Android 5 and higher because of ART. So I won't buy it until/ if Square wants to update the game.

I don't really see why this is a big issue. If you wanna be mad at anyone, then be mad at the people not updating shit to work on the new OS OR poor backwards compatibility on Google's part.
