Help ASAP Please. Friends pc blue screen as windows starts

Roverno

Hi all,

Hope i can get some help as quick as Linus says i can! :P

So my mate just rang me to ask for help as his pc is not starting.

He just restarted his PC after a windows update and it just stuck on the BIOS screen where you press F11 etc. It just froze at that screen. He has an asrock Z68 board and the error code said 99 which is super i/o, pci-e etc. i said to remove all the pci devices, plug into onboard gpu and reboot. The pc will now get to the windows loading screen (windows 7) but as it is doing that, the pc blue screens and then that instantly disappears before he can check the error code. we have also tried each stick of ram individually and that didnt seem to make a difference.

We have tried windows system repair on the boot drive but it failed.

We have cleared the BIOS with clear CMOS button and check it has reset but ordered the boot priorities correctly.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Try plugging in the SSD into another computer and run CHKDSK on it. It could be a problem with the SSD.

Either way it looks like he will need to do a  clean install.

It might be a guess but if the CPU is somewhat faulty couldn't that relate to a PCI error seeing how the PCI lanes go through the CPU. Same applies for the integrated graphics.

if you cant check the ssd, try running windows from one of the hdd's and see if it works.
