Hey all, I got a deal on a tube of 2g Shin Etsu X-23 7783D goop but I currently use MX-4 on my cpu which is overclocked to 4.5GHz. So is Shin Etsu better than MX-4? Or should I just stick with MX-4?

Those two thermal pastes shouldn't make much difference in terms of temperatures. Maybe 2-3 degrees at most. Stick with the current one.

Any of the top tier pasts which those are, including AC5 and a few others all fall within like 2-3c of eachother at best. I wouldn't even bother doing anything. With your 4690 I bet you are around 50c under gaming load? Maybe 55c? That is plenty fine. Don't even bother with reapplying paste.

60°C. But mainly because I live in a fairly hot environment. Surrounding temps are always 30°C.

Under full Aida64 load, it pushes 85°C on my H80i. I probably put too much goop on there because I used the X method.

Yea you probably did, I use a little dot. But that being said, those are not bad temps. They are a bit warm for that volts on a devil canyon i5, but not horrible. Could try and redo the paste, but may not see much change.

I tried the dot method before. It hit 90°C and I immediately repasted it. But so long it stays under 90°C, I'm totally fine with it.

It might have to do with my surrounding temps as well so there's that. Maybe after 3 years I'll replace it while I repaste my GTX 960 because I can't unscrew the cooler. MSI put a warranty sticker on one screw. -_- And I can see the goop spilling out of the chip onto the pcb when I was building.

I use a rice line... Works great with Noctua's thermal paste.
