I am really overdue to learn HTML

Dubesta11

I started getting into website design years ago, but never made any progress. My dream to to create a nice looking website that actually has functionality. What is the best way for me to learn not just the basics, but a more in depth look at HTML. I would spend the next month learning before I get to college, and I want to do at least one thing good.

Possibly Lynda.com,or a website like it. Any recommendations or programs would be very helpful. Thanks!

Codecademy

This. This is the site I used to learn HTML and CSS. 100% free, just link your google/facebook account with it.

However, in my opinion, the javascript course is a little bit poorly written, but I looked at it 2-ish years ago, so they might have changed it

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

Maybe you could take a college class for it. That way you could get feedback from other people.

Starts off with basics and takes you into more advanced topics, also good to use if you forget how to use something.

check out the framework called bootstrap

it takes care of a lot of styling and utilities for you

Yeah bootstrap is good but you should have a understanding of HTML/CSS before you use it.

I've always found the microsoft virtual academy tutorials to be very well made. They have a good one with Javascript(video and text), which helped me get into it. As a PHP dev. I was pretty much forced into learning javascript, and they really go into basics.

They also have a HTML and CSS tutorial for absolute beginners but I didn't bother with it, but it looks good at first glance.

Codecademy is also good, very interactive.

I wouldn't recommend w3schools though, it has a bad rep. for being out of date.

Mozilla has probably the best material for Javascript, https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Guide

There is also this: https://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/Main_Page

You can go with either of these, your biggest problem is motivation, not the actual learning material.

Just get at it, get the basics and then BUILD actual stuff and solve problems, instead of just following tutorials until you think you know something.

Too many tutorials will bore you and unless you get a job doing it, you'll just drop it soon after.

One exercise you could do is try to rebuild a website you like, as best you can, without copy pasting the source code, of course.

PS. Don't go into frameworks like Bootstrap, they won't teach you anything beyond that particular framework. They are there to build stuff fast, and only fast. You won't actually understand what's happening if you use Bootstrap or similar frameworks.

I've been there. Trust me, if you already know a thing or two about html and design in general. you won't get any better just reading and watching other people's video... What you wanna do is to plan a small project for yourself. Like for example, try to recreate other's website, just for fun. If theres anything you dont know, google it for yourself, the trick is, do not, and I repeat DO NOT ask for anybody's help. Try to do it on your own if you can.

W3schools is pretty good. Read their articles and play with google chrome inspector in about:blank a bit.
