Best way to paint a motherboard's heatsink?

so I just ordered the MSI MPower Z77 motherboard, and it has a yellow and black theme, my PC's theme is Red and black, what I was wondering is what is the best way of painting the heatsinks of the board?

should I remove them and then paint them? or should I mask everything off and then paint them? I'm worried that something wrong would happen

also what is the best way of painting them? using spray paint or actually oil paint that artists use?

Why did you buy a yellow and black motherboard, for a PC with a red and black colour scheme?

remove them and use masking tape on it once removed and use spray paint and do multiple layers

masking them off should be enough. just make sure you cover up all of your pci slots and stuff!

also, i suggest using plastidip, since you can remove it once you're done with the color!

Well, you know you could have bought something like this  it would have been a more particle solution (Also made by MSI :PPPPPP)  and its not really recommended to paint components, especially if you have to get a replacement, you would probably have to repaint everything

If it were me, because there's only small strips of yellow, i'd actually just use some enamel paint with a fine paint brush and a steady hand, and just paint over the yellow...

Spray painting a motherboard never ends well, or ever really looks that good.

I'd mask everything and paint them, but seal it very well. Good luck.

because its the only Z77 motherboard that I can find in my country that isn't over 200$ lol

what kind of tools would I need to do that?

All you really need it to unscrew the heat sinks, if there is no screw there might be push pins

All right for some.

I'm yet to see a spray painted motherboard that actually looks any good... Which is why i would personally never do it, or recommend it.

So you going for the spray paint approach, or just hand paint the yellow strips?

I have yet to decide, I'll see whats best for me, and I also yet to have the actual paint, so I'll see when the motherboard arrives

You should remove them to paint them and any spray paint will work it doesn't need to be anything special like the high temp stuff.

I have a write up on this in the Modding FAQ under the painting section for more detailed instructions:
