Heyoo,

Having a very concerning issue with my motherboard at the moment. When the machine is powered off and I push a button on my keyboard (G510s) or mouse (G502), the lights come on. If I have too many USB devices plugged in, it refuses to post if more than three devices are plugged in which makes me think it's a USB overload issue but, it doesn't even get to a stage where it can complain.

I'm really concerned as about a month ago I lost a 8-month old HDD to this machine and a 10 year old HDD before that (although it was probably going to die anyway). Makes me think it may be a PSU issue but I hadn't had any issues prior to these.

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel 4690K @4.6Ghz / 1.245v
  • Motherboard: Asus Z97-a
  • RAM: 2x 4GB Mushkin DDR3-1666
  • GPU: EVGA 780Ti SC
  • Storage: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB, Samsung 840 EVO Series 120GB
  • PSU: Seasonic X-Series V3 650W
  • Display: LG 27M45VQ-B 27"
  • Keyboard: Logitech G510s
  • Mouse: Logitech G502

The entire rig is only about 10 months old, really concerned. Not sure how I can troubleshoot this more than I already have.

have you checked to make sure "full" is the USB initialization option in your bios instead of "partial"

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Pretty sure partial is selected at the moment, does it make a huge difference? Thought that only affected things after post.

Contact Asus.

Really insightful comment. Cheers.

should at least fix this:

Maybe not but, it doesn't help a bunch. I'd rather diagnose the issue and try and fix it myself before contacting the manufacturer, it'd be a pain in the ass sending hardware away if it doesn't need fixing.

Just contact them in case something is off, if it doesn't need to be sent they should probably know. Of course that all depends on how good Asus support is over where you live.

Have never needed to... I guess it wouldn't hurt. They'll probably blame my power supply and if I call Seasonic (if that's even possible here), they'll blame the motherboard then I call Asus again and they blame magic... =/
