Hey guys, I was wanting to upgrade my PC in January, I currently have a Pentium G3258, and a R9 270, I wanted to upgrade to an i5 4460 and a GTX 970, should I upgrade any way since I have a 400w psu? I don't want to change my PSU, since it's out of my budget...So is it worth it, and is it going to work? I've been on several PSU calculators, they all give around a 400w recommended psu, but I wanted the LTT forum thoughts, so guys, will it work?

If the PSU is a good one, you should be fine, altho it might be really borderline and i won't be suprised if the psu decides to give up now and then.

You can always underclock if it's really needed... An underclocked 970 and 4460 will still be a lot better than what you have now.

In January? Like of 2016? I'm sure you could get the extra $80 for a nice 650w PSU but yours should be fine. Skylake may be a option by then also.

It's a EVGA 400w psu

Please be more specific on the model, not all EVGA are high quality

Are they LGA 1150 sockets?

No Skylake is a new mobo socket, the most you could wait for without changing is broadwell but there's not much point in that

Who knows I might just only upgrade the CPU, I still don't know..

I would probably upgrade the CPU then once you have more money upgrade the PSU and GPU
