Is it worth it?

Go to solution Solved by wtfxmitchell,

yes

Hey forum so i recently got a maximus V gene when i was getting ready for my first loop and I've got some miney that i can spend right now on PC stuff and one of the things that crossed my min is a sound card. So does it reall make that big a difference going from supreme FX audio to a soundcard? My main usage is gaming i'm no hardcore audiophile.

Yes, onboard sound isn't really too great.

Which is why you don't get the maximus for it's sound.

The biggest difference imo is the noise floor, not so much sound quality.

Will work for electronic components and parts

You don't need a soundcard if that's all you care about.

Unless your on board doesn't get loud enough, you don't need a soundcard. Spend the money on good headphones before you nitpick your source.

i have steelseries flux in ear pros. I think i'd be able to notice a difference if i switched but i'm still not sure if i'm going to yet since it sounds good enough for me atm.

I didn't say you needed good headphones to hear the difference, I said good headphones make a bigger difference than the source.

My $700 external setup is not $700 better in terms of audio quality (though I do enjoy it for other reasons). If it's good and you don't need other features just stick with on board. ;)
