If just for gaming technically an i5 would be good enough, but I really like the I7-4790k, i have one in my rig and the rig I built for my friend.

As for storage I don't really think a large ssd is really necessary, and with the price of ssds lately you can get that one for pretty cheap and it's reliable (my current rig has that ssd and I've had no issues and it's been a good year or so so far.

I think a regular 980 should be enough, but the guy could splurge for a 980ti if he wants to.

Fractal Design is my favorite case company, my rig has an Arc XL, but my friends rig that I built has a Define R5 and it's pretty silent, especially in addition to the cpu cooler i chose that he also uses.

One thing I wanted to mention about cpu cooler, I do think the be quiet dark rock pro is a really good cooler, one issue i had though was with installation in the top left corner hole on the motherboard is there wasn't enough room for my fingers to screw it on, the way i got it done was by unscrewing the heatsink on the top left side and putting it back after installation
