What graphics card to go with an Intel i3-4170?

My friend wants to build a new PC around the Intel i3-4170, will a 960 be too much or should he go for a 750Ti?

Or will an AMD card be better?

Want it to be good but as cheap as we can make it

everything up to 960, maybe also the 970 or on amd side 380/390 will be fine. before getting a 960, i'd prefer getting a 380, allthough i like nvidia more

960 should do actually better rather than 750ti..

Details separate people.

Any of the 200-ish cards are fine with na i3, and the price to performance is very good .

So the 960 then?

I would go with the GTX 960. The R9 380 is similar but AMD cards will get "bottlenecked" faster than an Nvidia card, so you may encounter lower performance with the i3 + R9 380 in some more demanding games (such as GTA V or something) than you would with i3 + 960.

Go with an R9 380, it performs way better than the GTX 960 at the same price, but if you can find an R9 280X for the same price go with it, it performs better than the 380 and significantly better than the 960 and has more VRAM and a wider memory bus.
