Thermal paste?

Go to solution Solved by gollum99,

Hi! I'm going to build a computer. And i have a question! I have heard that you should apply thermal paste. And sometimes build guides does not apply any thermal paste. I have a Intel Core i5-4690K and i did not get any thermal paste with it. Is it already applyed to the CPU Cooler or the CPU, or do i need to buy?

Thanks in advance!

If youre using the stock cooler its already applied, if you use another cooler it should be but if you arent sure just let me know the model and I will tell you if it does or not

If you look at the end where the cooler contacts the top of the CPU, you can see typically some white material, or grey, that's pre-applied thermal paste. If you don't have thermal paste shit will hit the fan. You can choose to apply your own instead and remove the pre-applied paste from the cooler and add your own. Typically results will be a little better.

And no, paste isn't pre-applied to the CPU, it's pre-applied on the cooler, check the free cooler you got with the CPU, it should have it pre-applied.

It is pre-applied to the stock cooler in the box. And most aftermarket coolers also come with thermal paste so you can install them.

if you ever take off and reapply the cooler you need to get some and put it on yourself.
