In another thread I asked if the 390x is worth buying in sacrifice of a ssd, but assuming I could afford the ssd. Would the X version still be worth it? From what I've seen theres only a 5 fps difference between that and the non-X version, so is it worth the extra 100 dollar price tag? Are driviers holding the X back/will it get better in the future?

Do you mean you'd sacrifice the ssd to get a 390x instead of an r9 390? What resolution are you playing at? For 1080p an r9 390 is plenty, an ssd is something I consider almost essential on any mid to high end build.

If you ask me it is. It competes with a 980 for $100 less. And with my SSD experience if you have windows 8 its not that noticeable.

It's actually shown to be better than the 980 in gaming. Word on the street says it's above the 980, but below the 980ti.

X is just an overclocked version. You can get a 390 and overclock it and bamm. 390x.

nope, the 390 has the same core as the r9 290, which was NOT the full hawaii core found in the 290x.

Thats not true,

The X is an fully unlocked Grenade (Hawai chip).

On which the 390 is not fully unlocked

If you don't feel like you can justify the extra premium of the 390X, then don't get it. The R9 390 is still a super powerful card, you won't be disappointed.

Every part of PC building (in most cases) is about compromising. Sure, you could get a Fury X or 980 Ti, but I think it's fair to say that they are enthusiast grade (with a price tag to match). For people who just want a solid product that will play well for a reasonable price, that's where cards like the GTX 970 and R9 390 come in.

Yes, yes, and yes!!! :) I just sold my GTX 980 to buy a 390X, and I'm loving the experience so far. Way less frame dips and the 8GB of VRAM is to die for :D

to be more precise,

The 390X has 11 compute units over 4 shader engines, which makes it a total of 2816 stream processors.

The 390   has 10 compute units over 4 shader engines, which makes it a total of 2560 stream processors.

well, it can't, thats why she bought a 390X  :P

yea, was really disappointed with the GTX 980. Even my 290X performed better in CS:GO.... (and by quite a bit too)
