So, I'm not sure what the heck is going on with my computer, but for some reason it just randomly freezes and I can't do anything but hard-reset it.

I've done some overclocking, but since reverted to defaults, and I'm still getting it.

I thought it was because of dust in my system, but I did a pretty good cleaning and I still got it not too long ago.

I was listening to music and playing LoL when it occurred most recently.

Here's my specs.

  • Coolermaster Haf 922
  • Intel i7-2600K
  • Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO
  • ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
  • Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 sticks of 4GB)
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 570
  • Coolermaster 800W Gold PSU (Modular)
  • Some Fatality Soundcard that seems to work pretty well, though I'm not an audiophile.

When the freeze happens, my sound goes extremely buggy and I don't know or what to do to fix this.

I recently tried doing a triple monitor setup, with my GPU and my Integrated Graphics, and that's when it started happening. So, I'm not sure what happened when I was downloading the drivers, but something must've been corrupted.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do to fix this?

Is your build on carpet by any chance? Static buildup can cause freezes. I've already had this happen to 2 different friends. I placed a thin wooden slab under their desktops, and bam, no more freezing/buzzing sound.

It used to be, but I've since moved it ontop of my wooden desk.

Happens with my iGPU as well. I'm guessing the CPU and RAM have a fit for a bit while things get processed and then all goes back to normal.

Nope. It just stays frozen until I restart my computer but using the power button on my case.

If it's a non-BSOD problem, then it's hardware (in my experience) or a reeeaaaally stupid driver :| Try re-plugging in your 8-pin and 24-pin cables.

I'll try that ASAP, thanks.

Its probably the creative software causing it (well known issue),

I know since i took my creative X-FI card out and removed the software completely. i have had zero freezes,in over 3 months, that's down from 4 or 5 a  week,

Shame to lose the creative card, but i prefer my PC not to randomly freeze.

PS its not enough to remove the card, you need to get rid of all the software.

I had an issue a bit like that with my old laptop and it turns out the hard disk was faulty (and later completely died). Run disk check (see the read before posting thread) to test your hard drive.

Also betting on that its the harddrive. By the way what HDD are you using?

Maybe also try to reinstall your chipset driver?
