Hello fellow techies. after many hours of research you are my last resort. As the title says, I get low GPU usage (about 40-60%) in game (Dirty Bomb) All while my CPU runs below 25% (not one core 100%, but 4 cores never more than half used). So my best guess is, that something introduces a cpu bottleneck, or prohibits the cpu to do it's job to it's full potential. WHY? I have no idea

Specs:

gtx 780 Windforce (well within temp limits)

4770k @ 4.2 Ghz (well within temp limits, with noctua NH-D14)

16GB 1866 ram

game running of WD black 4TB

2 x 830 SSD RAID 0 for OS

550 W  Seasonic G-series (more than enough)

I tried (without success):

-setting process priority to high

-Unparking cores

-disabling speed stepping in bios

-turning power options to high performance (it's a desktop, but I was desperate ^^)

additional Info:

-programs like cinebench have no problem pulling 100% cpu load

-the GPU in games like ARK or Dragon Age Inq.  has no problem being used 99%, with CPU well above 25%

-Dirty Bomb is running DX9

-FPS range for dirtybomb is 60-200 fps, but I have a 144hz monitor, So I want it constantly running at that

Appreciate the help in advance :)

as I said, I have a 144hz monitor, and there really is a big difference between 60fps and 120+. It's not as bad as 30fps vs 60, but it is noticable. My frustration is, that my hardware is more than capable of running this game at 144hz+ constantly, but for some reason it does not. experienced that problem in a few other games aswell (NS2 comes to mind), but there it's a poorly optimized engine (or so i thought).

If you're getting the same issue in other games as well it means there's something up with your system. Have you tried the latest NVIDIA drivers?
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/853781/geforce-drivers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-353-49-released-7-8-15-/

Also what do you mean by " and those games often run fine for others". What other games are fine for others?

Please you need to be detailed otherwise we can't help you.

Also if Dirty Bomb is the only game on your system that is fluctuating in performance like this, it's simply the game being problematic and there's little you can do but report the issues to the development team.

I just checked Warframe and NS2, both games have the same problem, cpu not really going above 25% and fps dropping a lot when there's a lot of stuff happening, at the same time GPU usage drops, so it's a cpu problem I think. however it does not go above those 25-ish %. A friend of mine just checked dirtybomb, and he get's like 40% cpu usage and much higher framerates

Drivers:

I tried the newest drivers and rolled back to older drivers (kepler problems in newer drivers). No change at all. I will try the hotfix, however I doubt it will do anything for me

If it was a CPU problem your system would crash or lockup during CPU tests like Cinebench. Something else is probably the issue.

Have you tried putting GPU power management mode to Maximum Performance for the game in the NV Control panel?

Although I kinda doubt it's that as you already pointed out you don't have issues in demanding games in the OP.

yes I did the maximum performance. didnt help. just now tried the hotfix driver, didnt help. Something is preventing my cpu from being fully utilized....

Yes the game engine, if it was in every program, and every game that would be the case; but it's not. Since it's only a small amount of things it's most likely the game and lots of people are reporting issues with Dirty Bomb on reddit.

No snip because I am on my phone.

I have the same problems. It probably comes down to optimization and tweaks. Sometimes I get weird lag spikes too..... So I feal you. I think we just have to wait for game improvements.

Again, It's many games for me. NOT just dirtybomb. AND friends of mine dont have that problem.

How many games, so far you've mentioned 3; two of which are still not even fully released. NS2 runs like rubbish even on my system. You state in your opening post that new well developed games do Not have this issue.

Also despite your friends not having the same issues with Dirty Bomb, numerous people over Reddit, Steam and Dirty Bomb forums do have FPS issues. Even another member on this forum has similar issues in the same game.

If it's in too many games, reinstall windows as a worst case. The fact that the system has no CPU or GPU issues in well developed games or benchmarks indicates to me that there is no real system issue. To me this shows the Game is badly made, especially since it runs in DX9.

If you insist it's your system that's faulty, all you have left to do is start replacing parts; which is extremely costly for the sake of 3 games.
