I have noticed that my HDD is constantly spinning so it sounds like a loud PC fan. There is no clicking so I don't think it is failing on me, also everything loads fine and there hasn't been a slow down in performance.

I can't find anything that would cause it to spin up as even when the usage of the drive is 0% (Only using my SSD) it will still be spinning which is unusual.

HDDs always spin. ALWAYS. they don't stop spinning for any reason when powered.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Yes I accept that but I am 100% sure it shouldn't be this loud as after using programs that were only on my SSD for a couple of hours the louder spinning noise went and turned into something that was more of what I expect.

To add to this I have heard this HDD when it isn't spinning as much and it is MUCH quieter. The difference is very noticeable and I don't think my HDD should be spinning this much.

it could be that you haven't mounted it right and the drive is vibrating the mount making it sound louder?

turn off your computer, reseat the HDD and make sure it's tight, or cushioned. reboot.

I already tried it as I thought the same thing myself but it had no effect.

you can make it stop spinning when at idle in your advanced PC power options, but thats bad

it will make your HDD die faster

install crystaldiskinfo and see if there are any warnings, this noise could mean it is dying

how old is the HDD? if it really worries you, i'd back up everything and RMA it.

some HDD noise really isn't that big a deal.

It says that the HDD is 'Good'. I don't think it is a HDD fault as I have heard it not make the loud sound coming from it now. It must be something else that is making it spin this much even when not in use.

good just means that there arent bad sectors or anything

your motor probably wore out in the wrong way and is now making noise

its not spinning any differently than it was before, when you said it was quiet

this isnt a software issue, its hardware

the best you can do is try repositioning the drive

take it out of the PC and put it on something like a cardboard box to make 100% sure the noise is not vibrations

if its still makes noise the only way you can fix it is by replacing the drive, because its a little defective
